The Sugiyama lab at School of Life Science and Technology, ShanghaiTech University is seeking applications from qualified applicants for the post of Research Assistant. Dr. Sugiyama is interested in understanding the functions of nuclear bodies and studies how nuclear bodies regulate RNA degradation and chromatin dynamics using fission yeast as a model system.

Job description:

The primary task of the Research Assistant is to provide technical support to lab members to ensure efficiency and success in carrying out experiments. The Research Assistant will perform basic experiments including molecular cloning, western blotting, and yeast transformation. These tasks are essential to enhance the overall laboratory’s productivity, and will provide the opportunity for co-authorship of any resulting scientific papers. Upon demonstration of meticulous bench work skills, the opportunity to learn more elaborate experiments, such as chromatin immunoprecipitation and RNA sequencing, will be available to the Research Assistant.

In addition to the primary task, the Research Assistant is expected to help set up and support the general running of the laboratory (ordering equipment and supplies, helping to monitor the laboratory budget, managing laboratory equipment, interacting with company representatives, helping with ShanghaiTech administrative work, etc.).

Required skills:

1. Native Chinese speaker or equivalent

2. Excellent command of written and oral English

3. Master’s degree or higher preferred, however outstanding applicants with Bachelor’s degree will also be considered as candidates

4. Experience with biochemistry, molecular biology or genetics (preferred, but not required)
